Julian Soper Motorcycles was formed in 1983. Julian worked before that for a local motorcycle company , Hadleigh Custom, a leader in Motorcycle four stroke tuning in the 1970's.
Julian raced throughout the 70's for Hadleigh Custom on the only Rob North framed Honda CB750, becoming acknowledged as the country's leading 4 stroke rider in the MCN Superbike series. In the 70's the field was dominated by Factory 2 stroke machines from Kawasaki, (KR750), Suzuki (TR750) & many Yamaha TZ750's. 1975 brought success at Brands Hatch in the Yuletide meeting, winning the main Solo event, and winning some extra prize money from Barry Sheene. 1976 brought a four stroke lap record at Brands Hatch GP circuit, that still stands today.
Julian eventually succumbed to the two stroke pressure by purchasing the ex Paul Smart TZ750. He raced this machine for only one season, 1977. Some success came in the World Formula 750 Championship meeting at Brands Hatch, the forerunner to World Superbikes. Julian finished 8th, collecting his only World Championship points.
